Fleurieu Made (est 2023) is an artisanal enterprise specialising in locally manufactured knitwear.  Professor Angelina Russo, a designer and academic from the Creative Industries, started Fleurieu Made after she settled on the Fleurieu Peninsula in 2021.

Between 2008 and 2016 Angelina ran a small knitwear business called CultureCycle, for which she won two national wool fashion awards. With a sound understanding of domestic machine knitting and a large stockpile of yarn, she decided to only use vintage yarns for Fleurieu Made products. This reduces environmental impact and has proven to appeal to consumers as each garment is sold with a story of the provenance of yarns, stories that ultimately contribute to circular economies and textile sustainability.

Fleurieu Made is underpinned by three core principles: Artisanal Craftsmanship, Sustainability at its Core, Skilled Expression. In its initial phase, Fleurieu Made focused on innovative product design, testing and market analysis.  Future plans include scaling up through digital artisanship and local manufacturing technologies, with the goal of establishing a sustainable and profitable business model.

Beyond the design of bespoke knitwear, Fleurieu Made aspires to establish a franchise model for a Circular Textile Lab that can contribute to regenerating local textile manufacturing while fostering sustainable practices.

This collaborative space will enable innovation in local production, processing, design and manufacturing, all within a framework of sustainability. In 2024, we trialled the Circular Textile Lab during Adelaide Fashion Week.

IMAGINE CIRCULAR FASHION began as a 4 day pop up and received funding from Renew Adelaide, providing sound insights for future development.
